EMDR for Trauma in Pasadena

JOHN ALLAN WHITACRE, AMFT

Finally Heal Trauma with EMDR Therapy

I offer EMDR therapy in Pasadena to help you process trauma and find peace.

Trauma can feel like a shadow that follows you everywhere. You try to move forward, but the past keeps pulling you back. It isn’t just the memories that bother you, it’s the beliefs you hold because of the memories that leave you feeling helpless.

You’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay in that place. You deserve to feel safe, whole, and free. I can help you process those lingering wounds and move toward lasting peace.

I use EMDR therapy to help individuals heal from traumatic experiences and reduce emotional distress. EMDR is a structured, evidence-based method that helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer carry the same emotional charge.

I’ll guide you through EMDR, a structured process that has been shown to help people overcome trauma, anxiety, and more. EMDR involves 3 phases of treatment that help move you resolve the traumatic experience. The process can be difficult, yet the end result will give you relief and peace. You’ll be able safely reprocess painful memories, release their hold, and reclaim your sense of self.

Now is the time to heal. Reach out today to schedule a call and take the first step toward the peace you deserve.

How EMDR Therapy Works

STAGE 01

Plan

The first step in EMDR is to learn about your history and some of the painful memories you are hanging onto. Additionally, we will learn about how distressing memories have shaped your beliefs about yourself and the world.

STAGE 02

Reprocess

In the next sessions, we'll engage the difficult memory or experience in a safe way using a technique called bilateral stimulation. Bilateral stimulation is a type of somatic exercise which helps integrate the mind through either tapping or eye movement in a right-to-left pattern. The aim is to help the mind process the memory and reduce the strength of fear response associated with the memory.

STAGE 03

Implement

After reprocessing, you'll discover new, positive beliefs that feel more true and helpful. I’ll guide you in applying these new perspectives to your present life so things are more manageable. We’ll check in on recently processed memories and identify new targets to continue your healing journey.
