Here Counseling has therapists who are in network with Aetna. Your exact coverage depends on your Aetna plan, including your deductible, copay, coinsurance and mental health benefits. Because every plan is different, it’s important to check your benefits before you start therapy.

Therapy may be covered differently depending on the service, the therapist, your diagnosis and your plan’s rules. Individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy and assessment services may not all be covered the same way. If you’d like to use your Aetna insurance, let us know on your consultation call. Our Care Coordinator can explain the next steps and connect you with an in-network therapist who fits your needs.

Your plan decides what you pay for each session. Here’s what the common terms mean:

  • Deductible: the amount you pay for covered care each plan year before your insurance starts to share the cost. Some plans apply it to therapy and some don’t.
  • Copay: a set dollar amount you pay per session once your coverage applies.
  • Coinsurance: a percentage of the session cost you pay, instead of or along with a copay.
  • Out-of-pocket maximum: the most you pay for covered care in a plan year. After that, your plan pays for covered services.

Your Aetna member card, member website or member services line can tell you which of these apply to outpatient mental health care on your plan.

A short call to Aetna before your first session can save surprises later. Call the member services number on the back of your card, or log in to your Aetna member account, and ask:

  1. Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
  2. What is my copay or coinsurance for an in-network therapy session?
  3. Do I have a deductible for mental health care, and how much of it have I met?
  4. Do I need a referral or prior authorization for therapy?
  5. Are online (telehealth) sessions covered the same way as in-person sessions?
  6. Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
  7. Is couples or family therapy covered on my plan?

Have your member ID ready. Then call or text us at (323) 209-5504, or request a call, and our Care Coordinator will help you take the next step.

If you have a PPO plan other than Aetna, superbills are available. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can send to your insurance company to ask for out-of-network reimbursement. How much you get back depends on your plan’s out-of-network benefits, so ask your insurer about out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage before you start.

Cost of Therapy Without Insurance

If you’d rather not use insurance, sessions are $150 to $345 depending on the clinician. Couples sessions are $175 to $345. We occasionally have openings for lower-fee services, so ask our Care Coordinator about availability. See our fees page for how we set fees.

What to Expect When You Start

  1. Request a call or call/text (323) 209-5504. Our Care Coordinator will ask what you’re looking for, your schedule, and whether you’d like to use Aetna.
  2. Free 15-minute consultation call. Talk with a therapist, ask questions and see whether the fit feels right.
  3. Your first session. Meet in person at our Pasadena office, Suite 629, 595 E Colorado Blvd, or online from anywhere in California. Your therapist will get to know what brings you in, ask about your history and goals, and talk with you about a plan for your work together.
  4. Ongoing sessions. You and your therapist decide on a rhythm that fits your goals and schedule.

We don’t keep waitlists. Most clients are seen within one week.

If coming into the Pasadena office is hard to fit in, online therapy may be a helpful option. Here Counseling offers online therapy across California for clients who need flexibility, privacy or access from home. Online therapy can support many of the same concerns as in-person therapy, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship stress, burnout, grief and life transitions. Check with Aetna about how your plan covers online sessions.

Choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming when every profile starts to sound similar. You may know you want help but not know whether you need somatic therapy, anxiety therapy, trauma therapy, couples therapy or another kind of support.

Our Care Coordinator can help you choose a therapist based on your concerns, schedule, preferences and goals. You can also use our Therapist Matcher to describe what you’re going through and see therapists who may fit. The goal isn’t to book the first available therapist. It’s to help you start with someone who feels safe, thoughtful and aligned with what you need.
