Learn to listen to your body and recover your strength
I help people move out of survival mode and into wholeness using somatic therapy
Addy Sonneland, AMFT
Supervised by Dr. Connor McClenahan, PSY30369
Somatic therapy is a body-oriented approach designed to address trauma and stress-related disorders by focusing on physical sensations and bodily responses. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which primarily deals with cognitive and emotional aspects, somatic experiencing focuses on the profound link between mind and body, helping clients release repeated physiological energy from past traumas. Somatic therapy tackles issues like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain by guiding people to gradually process and integrate traumatic experiences through bodily awareness.
Clients often experience significant improvements such as reduced symptoms, increased resilience, better emotional regulation, and a restored sense of vitality and well-being. Basically, somatic therapy helps you feel better by teaching your body to stop holding on to trauma.
How much do sessions cost?
My fee is $175/session for 45 minute individual sessions, $225 for 60 min couples sessions. I occasionally can accommodate sliding scale appointments. I offer super bills for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. Call our care coordinator with any questions about fee.
What kinds of problems do you help with?
I help adolescents and adults with somatic complaints like panic attacks, sleep issues, disordered eating, migraines, and other manifestations of trauma and anxiety. I also help couples prepare for marriage through pre-marital counseling. Additionally, I work with individuals navigate life transitions, chronic illness, and relationship distress.
What do you like about being a therapist?
I believe that to be fully known and fully loved is transformational. The therapy process is full of rich conversations and new insights. I enjoy the process and getting to watch transformation unfold.
